Why would I want to use this instead of standard Jira Attachments?

For any of these three main reasons:

1. You want/need more than the 250 GB of storage Atlassian provides while looking for a more cost-effective setup.

2. You already have an existing storage solution in place.

3. You want better control over where your files are stored, and what happens to them.

Jira Cloud comes with a 250 GB storage limit for Standard accounts, shared between Jira and Confluence instances. While the Premium plan offers unlimited storage, you can also bring your own storage solution without changing your current plan.

With this plugin, you gain the freedom to choose the storage solution that works best for you, along with everything S3 and other providers bring to the table. For example, integration with other AWS services or sharing a bucket across your Confluence instance.

How does Simple Cloud Files compare with other file management solutions?

Simple Cloud Files for Jira Cloud makes managing your attachments way less painful. Instead of traditional category systems, it uses flexible label-based tagging so your team can organize files however makes sense for your workflow.

How are my files stored?

All files you upload through the Cloud Files section will be stored in the S3 bucket you've configured. Each Jira space will have it's own folder based on the space key.

Within each space folder, you will find one folder called "projectFiles", which contain all the files directly associated with the space itself.

Additionally, you will find a folder for each Jira work item that has Simple Cloud Files attached to it. The folders are named based on the work item key. (ABC-1, ABC-2, ..etc).

What will happen to my files when I stop using the plugin or Jira?

Absolutely nothing!

The beauty of using the Simple Cloud Files app is that you own the S3 Bucket, and thus the files stay with you, no matter whether you stop using our plugin, or even Jira itself.

How much storage will I have? Are there any limitations?

Since Simple Cloud Files can use Amazon S3 and other S3-compatible cloud storage solutions, you have virtually unlimited storage. We know of S3 buckets with many terabytes of storage consumed.

You simply pay the standard S3 storage rates.

Does it take long to install?

Not at all.

With the Atlassian Marketplace, you can install the Simple Cloud Files app from inside of your Jira instance using your browser. Simple as that.

What will my Jira look like after it is installed? Or how can I tell it's working?

After you've installed our app, your Jira instance gains two new screens; one in the space main screen and one in the work item/ticket screen:

1. Your Jira Cloud spaces gain a new “Browse S3” tab header when you open them. If you don’t see it on the first load, click to expand the “More” tab and select Browse S3. This is where your space-level files and folders go.

2. Your Jira Service Desk spaces gain a new Browse S3 tab in the left navigation. This is where your Service Desk space-level files and folders go.
