Upgrade Process & Notices

On this page:

Jira Cloud

On Jira Cloud, you never have to worry about the upgrade process. When we ship new features, we publish them to the Atlassian Marketplace, and within a few hours, they should show up in your Jira Cloud instance.

We automatically handle any necessary data upgrades and such, behind the scenes, so the process is seamless for you.

Jira Data Center

On Jira Data Center, the upgrade process is manual -- by visiting the 'Manage Apps' screen, and clicking the Update button when an update is available.

Generally, updates are safe and it is exceedingly rare that an upgrade goes bad. That being said, our recommendation is always to backup your Jira instance/data before doing any upgrades for any app.

Additionally, if you've been using our app since before the v2.0 release, you might have old pages that use legacy markup. That is, pages used to use the legacy Jira Markup until the v2.0 release when we introduced a new rich editor. Those pages will continue to render without any issues. But, if you edit them, they will be converted to the new format behind the scenes.

You can find more details about the legacy markup here: Converting Legacy Pages to new pages.
